Garage Sales

Meme and I found some nice items at a local garage sale. I picked up this wrought iron table base for $8. The table will go somewhere in one of our outside rooms.

Meme picked up two of these chairs for $20. She will use them in her bedroom.

Phase 2 Begins

Now that the designer, Meme, has found a picture of what she wants the seating wall to look like we can proceed with hardscape for phase 2 of this project.

In the view below we are looking North and the seating wall will be on the east side of this outside room. We have begun pouring the 16 concrete pads which will form the floor for the room.

Behind Coco is the remainder of the crushed black granite which will go around the border of the pad floor. The interior spaces between the pads are filled 3/4 of the way with crusher fines and the last 1" is topped with black beach pebbles from Mexico.

I have never constructed a wall before so I will have lots to share about that part of the project as we get further into it. We poured a backsplash for bathroom vanity last week and we made an interesting discovery which are asking the designer for permission to include in this outside redo. We had several failed attempts on the backsplash so we redesigned the mold and lined it with polypropylene sheets. The backsplash came out the mold very easily and appeared as though it had been diamond polished. Very cool.

Phase 1 Finished

Coco and Andrew moved 5 tons of crushed granite and finished the hardscape on phase 1.

Andrew did most of the moving so that Coco would not have the big one.

Meme washed down the rock to remove dust and help it to begin to settle.

Then we did some staging and Andrew took some nice photos.

We move on to phase 2.

You too can do it

Meme makes the plan and Coco does the research. Materials needed include graph paper, straight edge, pencil, web access and good reference book/idea book.

Coco levels the site and builds one form and begins to experiment with pouring pads. Materials needed incude plywood, 2"x4"x8' studs, long drywall screws, rebar, wheel barrow,
shovels, pick axe, power driver and power miter. Andrew helps with these tasks and his only requirement is that he be in charge. Be sure to check the form for dimensions and squareness prior to the pour and allow enough
time for curing.
After a couple of failed attempts Coco and Andrew get down to business pouring and setting pads for the first outside room in this three room project ie. the kitchen garden. Materials needed include crusher fines and strong backs.
